The husk of spelt preserves the power of the sun, and it is medicinal due to its 90% silica content. Silica is a water-bound silicon oxide, that can evaporate from the husk while it is drying, easing spasms, inflammations and pain in your body. Spelt husk pillows are great if you have shoulder or neck pain, or migraine caused by these, joint pain or insomnia. (The silica evaporates for approximately 2-3 years.) Spelt husk is breathable and light, yet stable so it can relieve neck muscles and help the blood circulation of the brain. The husk won't get too hot, which makes it suitable for those who sweat a lot too. The husks can be adjusted to any sleeping position. They support the body and relax the muscles in any position. How to use spelt husk pillows?
You should air the pillow sometimes after use by an open window, or place it in a sunny place, so the heat of sleeping can evaporate.
What if the pillow is too hard for me?
Our Dinkel and Prána pillows are adjustable so everyone can find their comfort in them. If the pillow is too hard for you, open the zipper and remove some husks. The removed husks can be used later to recharge and refresh the pillow.
Can I wash the spelt husk pillow?
You cannot wash the husks and the case together! The husks can be washed separately in a mesh wash bag after removed from the cover. Rinse them in small batches with body temperature water. Then spread the husks and air dry them carefully. It is very important to let it dry well, otherwise it can get mold.
Can moth contaminate the pillow?
The pillow only contains the husks of spelt, so there is no nutrient in it for moth or any other bug, but the smell of it can stimulate them. All Prána pillows are filled with sterilized (chemical-free) husks. If you want to be really sure, then you can put the pillow in the oven at 500 °C for15-30 minutes, or in the freezer for 8 hours. (If you use the freezer, then put the pillow in a bag, to keep it dry.)
Our ancestors believed in the mystical power of spelt and millet husk. They used it as early as the 11. century, and they believed in its beneficial impact. Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) thought that the husk was helping people with insomnia, back and leg pain, and makes relaxing the neck easier and faster. According to Hildegard, it is beneficial to hampered respiration, heartache, migraine, ear infection and weather sensitivity alike. It soothes the pain if you put it on the aching part of your body, no matter if it is your back, head, rheumatism, bladder problem or menstrual pain.
