APPLICATION
Tea tree essential oil (Aetheroleum melaleucae) is the steam distilled extract of the Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) in the family of myrtles (Myrtaceae). The medicinal effect comes from an active agent in it called terpinen-4-ol. For every kilograms of essential oil, 70 kgs of plant matter is needed.
It is one of the most popular essential oils, with endless uses and excellent antimicrobal qualities. It has a water-like, consistency, its color ranges between clear, transparent and pale yellow.
Tea tree essential oil have been used for centuries as an antifungal, antiseptic, and wound healing agent. It is not recommended for people who have overly sensitive skin. It shouldn't be applied directly on the skin undiluted, except when treating pimples and warts.
Diffusing: Pour 5-8 drops of tea tree oil along with water in the aroma lamp. It has a refreshing and cleaning effect.
Aromatherapy bath: Mix 4 drops of essential oil in a little milk or honey, and add it to the water. Recommended time of bath: 10-15 minutes.
Antifungal foot soak: Place a tablespoon of salt in a foot tub, and pour 10-20 drops of essential oil on it. Mix it in 2-3 liters of lukewarm water, and soak your feet in it for 15-20 minutes. It will refresh and sooth the skin, reduce foot odour, and kill bacteria and fungus.
Hair care against grease and dandruff: Mix 3 drops of essential oil in one wash worth of shampoo (approximately 15 ml), and wash your hair with it. Let the lather sit on your scalp for 3 minutes, then rinse it with warm water. Tea tree essential oil is great for the scalp and hair. It reduces itching and regulates sebum production. It has a soothing effect and protects against dandruff.
For brusises, pimples, or insect bite induced itching: Mix 1-3 drops of essential oil in 1 teaspoon of olive oil, and massage it in the skin.
Tea tree is great mixed with: peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus, lavender, sage, rosemary, roman chamomile essential oils.
