Documentaries about what happens to Planet Earth and humans
"Beyond a flash of media attention or the day’s top headlines, an understanding of the state of the world and of human rights (and wrongs) requires commitment and attention, day in, day out. Human rights documentary film festivals are rooted in a challenge to combine the celebration of creative achievement with sober reflection, exceptional stories with everyday experiences, feast with responsibility. From burning forests to burnt skin, the world is scarred and calls for attention beyond the shock expressed in a burning question like “how dare you?”. Understanding is the first step towards change."
These strong words appear in the welcome page of this year's Verzio Documentary Film Festival.
The films will be shown in 12-17 November in Budapest, and 21-24 November in Debrecen, Kecskemét, Pécs, Szeged and Szombathely.

Films collected in the Anthropocene section are linked to nature and environment, we recommend to check the list of films presented!
"The idea of Anthropocene is far from celebratory; over the past century, human impact on the planet has transformed it beyond belief, perhaps, beyond reversal. Today the earth’s climate and resources, the life of multiple species, and the very right to live itself, are at stake. The Anthropocene section of our program is about reflection, responsibility and change. These films demonstrate that the challenges are complex and multiple, and too often driven by commercial interests and private profits—in the global food industry and agriculture (Soyalism, Sheep Farm), in construction and housing policies (Breathless, Push), and in mining, logging, and other extractive practices (Earth, Timbo). But responsible action, collaborative attitudes, and innovative ways of using human and natural resources can also lead to change (Fair Traders, When Tomatoes Met Wagner). We hope these screenings will launch discussions that will address individual responsibility, consumer and industrial best practices, and questions about long-term impact and sustainability."
